Xena and Gabby Cheat Death

the votes are in..It's a tie! OK so double duty here I will discuss Xena and Gabby's brushes with death and Xena's past. first up - death.

It all starts in season one episode 21, The Greater Good. Xena is struck by a poison dart shot by a later revealed Callisto and Gabrielle must accept her death while she and Salmoneous continue the fight against an evil warlord. Of course, the dart was only meant to act as a tranquilizer while Callisto, as we soon discover, went about reviving Xena's reputation as a wanton murderer.

Next it was Gabrielle's turn to die as she did in episode 24, “ Is There a Doctor in the House?” Gabrielle is shot by an arrow and slowly loses conscious until she dies. But Xena's resilient efforts to revive her finally work and Gabrielle springs back to life! Hallelujah!

 In Season 2 gabby and Xena make it through 11 episodes with no fatalities until the end of the episode “destiny” where after being fatally hit by a rigged tree trunk, Xena again dies. It was her turn again lol. In episode 13, "the quest" Xena's body is made ready for burial by Gabrielle's tribal pals, the Amazons. But Xena has a chance to live with ambrosia! So off gabby and autolucs journey (by control of Xena's spirit) to reach the godly jello.

One Against an Army

In season 3 it's Gabrielle's turn to die again and she almost does in "one against an army".  But not quite because she gets the serum in time. But she did narrowly cheat death. However, it wasn't dramatic enough so she had to go and jump in the pit of Dahak as a sacrifice for Xena's life in episode 22, "the sacrifice 2", Xena's heartache can be felt for sure as she revengefully stabs Callisto with the dagger saying through gritted teeth, “no more living for you.”

In season 4, the final episode 21, both Xena and Gabby die for a change in the "Ides of march", however, the cheating of death doesn't occur until seasons five's opener "Fallen Angel", Eli and Amarice and Joxer must deal with their lifeless bodies until Eli's prayer summons a redeemed Callisto to help him heal them back to life. How lucky they are this cheating death thing!

In keeping with the dying together bit. Xena and Gabrielle "die" again in season 5, episode 19, "looking death in the eye". But they're not really dead. To bad, no one told Ares because he took their bodies and locked them away until they wakened on their own 25 years later. What I want to know is why it took 25 years to wake up? The whole time jump threw me off, but they had to grow baby Eve up some kind of way, didn't they? Darn that baby! But Lucy was preggers so I guess they had no choice but write it in,... but I wasn't mad at her. She had suffered a miscarriage that previous season as I recall she said in an ET interview years ago so I'm glad she and Xena had a successful pregnancy this time.

3 episodes later in "motherhood", Gabrielle dies after being killed by none other than Xena! She mistakes her for an assassin from Olympus and slices the back of her head with the Chakram after catching her stab Eve in the back, literally. But what do you think? Did Xena know that it was Gabrielle? Or did she mistake her for an enemy? Would she kill Gabrielle in favor of her own flesh and blood? It wouldn't be surprising. After all, Gabby also caused the death of Xena's first child Solan because of lying about Hope being dead. Gabby doesn't get on well with Xena's children, does she? Anyway if Ares hadn't stopped in, where would she be? Dead! For once we saw Ares in a new light, and I liked him from here on out the rest of the show.

 

Nooo! Die!

 So this was the last episode of cheating death, because it was Xena's turn to die next and die she did in the final episode. No cheats that time.
